NGOS meet in Beirut to discuss Education for All
Paris, December 6 - The 2005 Education for All Global Monitoring Report, launched by UNESCO in November, 2004, will provide the basis for discussions at the Collective Consultation of Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs) at its annual meeting in Beirut, Lebanon, from December 9-11.

06-12-2004 4:15 pm The 2005 Education for All Global Monitoring Report, launched by UNESCO in November, 2004, will provide the basis for discussions at the Collective Consultation of Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs) at its annual meeting in Beirut, Lebanon, from December 9-11.

Representatives from some 150 NGOs and civil society organizations from around the world will attend the consultation. The meeting will be preceded by a session aimed at reinforcing the dialogue between civil society organizations and governments on the issue of Education for All, as well as a regional consultation for NGOs in the Arab States.

These meetings are part of the effort to achieve the six Education For All goals set by the World Education Forum in Dakar, Senegal, 2000. The Forum called for the association of different partners, “especially peoples' representatives, community leaders, parents, learners, non-governmental organizations (NGOs) and civil society.”

The Collective Consultation of NGOs on Education For All (CCNGO/EFA) is a key partnership that favours the participation of civil society in the Dakar follow-up process. Initiated by UNESCO, it brings together more than 700 NGOs and international, regional and national networks working for EFA around the world, who are in permanent contact.

The CCNGO/EFA meets annually to assess EFA activities, bring to light any difficulties encountered by its members and to decide on future orientations. The last meeting was held in Porto Alegre in Brazil.

On December 9, participants and media will be invited to attend a special session devoted to a presentation of the 2005 EFA Global Monitoring Report, which focuses on the quality of education.
